On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Youth Symphony returns to Kahilu Theatre to offer two free Listen & Learn concerts for Hawaii Island schoolchildren. These free 45-minute educational concerts introduce students to orchestral music, families of instruments and proper concert behavior, helping them to meet state arts standards.
Ninety-five of the state’s most talented young musicians take the stage with trumpet player Stanton Haugen when the Hawaii Youth Symphony comes to Hawaii Island to perform a free concert 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.
This concert will feature HYS’s Youth Symphony I under the baton of Music Director Henry Miyamura, who is known for creative and innovative programming. The orchestra is comprised of secondary school students from 22 schools on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.
Veteran trumpet player Stanton Haugen has traveled the world performing for a variety of audiences including Thailand’s Royal Highness.
Haugen will be accompanied by the symphony and his lively repertoire will include a special rendition of the “Bullfighter’s Song.”
