The congregation of Hilo Coast United Church of Christ in Honomu announces the installation of the Rev. Linda Petrucelli as the church’s settled pastor and teacher at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, at the church. The event is open to all. Light refreshments will be served following the service.
“This church has been serving the people of the Hilo/Hamakua Coast in Honomu since 1894,” says church council Moderator Eleanor Pernell. “We are very excited to continue our ministry under Pastor Linda’s leadership and encourage everyone in the area to visit us.”
Petrucelli and husband Gary Hoff have called Hawaii Island home for 12 years. For nine years, they served as missionaries in Taiwan. Petrucelli also served as executive for Global Sharing with the United Church Board for World Ministries from 1993 to 2000. Since settling in Hawaii, Petrucelli has worked with several congregations as pastor as well as with the United Church of Christ Disaster Ministries office following the 2000 flooding and 2006 earthquake on the island. She holds a master of arts in religion from Yale University Divinity School and a doctor of ministry from Chicago Theological Seminary.
Special guests at the Installation Service will include the Rev. Charles Buck, Hawaii Conference of the United Church of Christ Minister and Keola Downing, president of the Hawaii Island Association of the Hawaii Conference.
Hilo Coast United Church of Christ is located at 28-1630 Old Mamalahoa Highway in Honomu.
