Tyler Kotchnik went four innings and took the loss for the Boxers (1-3)

Joshua Wong cranked a three-run homer and batted 2 for 3 with four RBIs, but his fireworks were overshadowed by shaky pitching in the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s 8-6 loss to Pacific on Thursday night at Wong Stadium.

Two other teammates, John Abreu and Brad Fairweather (each 2 for 4) were productive but the Vulcans couldn’t muster enough runs to offset a rough outing by Tyler Simao, who got rocked for six runs in just 3 1/3 innings.

Bryan Raines followed Simao and went the final 5 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks, and struck out six.

Chad Fahey pitched 8 2/3 innings, gave up six runs and got the win. Nate Rasmussen got one out for the save.

Kevin Schwartz batted 3 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Division III Boxers, who don’t offer athletic scholarships.

In the final game of the four-game series, UHH beat Pacific 5-1 before 164 fans.

Wong continued his hot hitting. He went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, getting two of UHH’s five hits.

Casey Bohlmann pitched out of a bases-loaded pickle in the seventh for his second save, striking out the side.

Dane Kinoshita fired five scoreless innings for the win. He surrendered two hits and a walk and struck out eight, at one point whiffing six in a row for the Vuls (3-5).
