Make it five wins in a row for the University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s basketball team.

Also, mark the Lady Vulcans down for a clean sweep of their Bay Area road trip.

Hillary Hurley scored 28 points and pulled down 14 rebounds Saturday as UHH downed Dominican 52-42 in San Rafael, Calif.

“A three-game trip is never an easy one,” said UHH coach David Kaneshiro, whose team beat Notre Dame de Namur on Tuesday and Academy of Art on Thursday. “I’m really happy with the team’s effort and desire.”

The Penguins played better than they did in a blowout loss to UHH on Feb. 18 in Hilo, but Hurley was not to be denied this time around. The 6-foot-2 forward was 12 of 21 from the field to carry the Vulcans (13-11, 10-6 Pacific West Conference). Elise Spain added six points.

Hurley and her fellow seniors will be honored Thursday on senior night when the Vulcans host Hawaii Pacific.

Ariana Flynn had 14 points for Dominican (4-23, 3-14).

Men

Dominican 69, UHH 64: Terrell Mack led the Vulcans (8-16, 2-14) with 15 points while Zachary Wilde added 14 and Mychael Hearn had 13, but UHH lost its fourth straight game.

“We just couldn’t get over the hump,” UHH coach Jeff Law said. “All things considered it’s our ninth loss by five points or less.

“Frustration is there but the guys are fighting their way through it. We just need to come up with a good feeling when we get through it.”

Jacob Noisat had 12 points for the Penguins (10-18, 9-8), who scored the game’s last five points.
