Chinese class to begin in March
The Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles announces a 21-session, seven-week Conversational Chinese language class. This class begins on Monday, March 5, and will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-11 a.m. on the patio.
These sessions are designed for those who want to learn the language for conversational purposes. Writing will not be covered. The teacher, Wen-Chi Chang, is a Chinese native who has taught at Hilo Community Church of Christ and the Hilo Community School for Adults for the past two years.
Enrollment is limited to 15 students, on a first come, first served basis. The cost for the class is $65 in addition to a materials fee of $30.
This class will be taught at the Church of the Holy Apostles, 1407 Kapiolani St., which is located between Lanikaula and Kawili streets, below the old University of Hawaii at Hilo gym.
Call Keala Palea at 935-5545 to register for the class. Payment by must be made before class begins to confirm registration.
Mokupapapa is closed till Friday
Mokupapapa Discovery Center in downtown Hilo will be closed today through March 2 for an off-site meeting. Normal business hours will resume Saturday, March 3. The center is open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays.

Treasure offered by Hongwanjis
Every year, the Buddhist temples from Honpa Hongwanji and Higashi Hongwanji on the Island of Hawaii come together to share their special treasures with the general public. It is a very interesting collection of displays and sales of unique items from the people of their area.
This year, the “Treasures of Hongwanji” will be from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Sangha Hall in Hilo. Admission is free.
Some of the delicious food items expected this year are: chicken sausage, chayote sambaizuke, milk bread, jams, yomogi dango, papaya namasu, Kona Coffee, jellies, ampan, ti leaf dango, sekihan, barbecued ribs, mini spam musubi, smoked pork, and more. There will also be plants, vegetables, cherry blossoms and other flowers, crafts, informative displays, entertainment, kids activities, and lucky number prizes.
