Hale Aloha O Hilo Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit whose mission is to create decent, affordable housing.
The Hilo Habitat for Humanity ReStore will reopen Saturday for donations and bargain hunters following renovations. To help kick off the reopening, the nonprofit is holding a free basic home maintenance class, sponsored by Hawaii Island United Way. This month’s topic is drywall repair. The one-hour class starts Saturday at 10 a.m.
The store is adding a mezzanine for office space, increasing its footprint by 400 square feet, and making additional room for accepting and processing donations. The store is open to the public Monday through Saturday. Call 935-6677 or stop by the store’s 700 Manono St. location, right behind Floor Decor to arrange for pick-up of large items, if needed.
The ReStore accepts building materials, furniture, small and large appliances, paint, hardware, housewares, plumbing and electrical supplies and fixtures, tools, and doors and windows in new or gently used working condition. Donations are tax-deductible, and all proceeds stay with Hilo Habitat and help build houses and eliminate poverty within the community.
