The Hilo Aquatic Club, whose swimmers are pictured above, is hosting the 25th annual Sparky Kawamoto Swim Meet this weekend at Sparky Kawamoto Swim Stadium. In honor of Kawamoto, who was actively involved in swimming and coaching for almost 50 years on the Big Island, the meet “focuses on the novice level or developmental age group swimmers and celebrates and recognizes these swimmers accomplishments with the same excitement that is presented at the championship meet,” according to a release. Sparky is the only ABC classified meet — swimmers classified with a Hawaii A or B times or slower on the state schedule. The meet continues today at 9:30 a.m.
