Men’s Chorus wants singers

Men’s Chorus wants singers

On Monday, March 19, at 5 p.m., the Puna Men’s Chorus will welcome new singers who want to join for the upcoming season. The “Welcome to PMC” orientation for those interested in joining will be held at the Pahoa Community Center. New members are invited to lend a voice to this outreach and concert performances in 2012, beginning with opening nights at Merrie Monarch Festival and the Paradise Roller Girls, and culminating later in the year with two concert series. Evening rehearsals during the year will be held every Monday from 5-7:30 p.m. in Pahoa. For more information, call 965-2799, email info@punamenschorus.org, or visit punamenschorus.org.

Health programs win Beacon grants

The Hawaii Island Beacon Community has selected 17 community-based projects for its Healthy Eating and Active Living Program aiming to effect positive changes in people’s eating, physical activity and tobacco use habits. Supported by approximately $300,000 of HIBC’s federal funding, the HEAL projects will run through February 2013 and reach more than 15,000 Hawaii Island residents in all regions from diverse ethnic groups, including those most at risk.

The HEAL program kicks off with a mandatory health literacy training day today for the leaders from all the projects. Updates and testimonials will be posted at hibeacon.org/heal.
