Thank you to the students and advisers for including the Waiakea Tsunami Clock in the 50th anniversary celebration of Waiakea Intermediate School. The beautiful flowers and the message, which said, “We Remeber Our Connection to Waiakea Town,” touched the heart and expressed the love that old timers have for Waiakea. It is good to know that the children learn about and remember the history of Waiakea Town.

Tsunamis have changed the landscape of Hilo and we are fortunate to have people like Mr. Takayoshi Kanda (The Keeper of the Clock) and the Waiakea Pirates, Karen Isemoto Chang and Principal Lloyd Matsunami keep our Waiakea history alive.
