World champion swing dance instructors Marcus Koch and Baerbl Kaufer of Munich, Germany, will return to Hilo in April to teach their craft for the 10th year in a row.

“We love Hilo,” said Koch, who has been dancing professionally with his partner since 1991. “We feel so welcome here.”

This year, the renowned couple will also teach beginners’ classes at the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Thursday, April 5. Some students can attend for free, thanks to cosponsorship arranged by the UHH Swing Dance Club. Additional classes will be held at the Island Dance Academy and the Hilo Elks Lodge.

The workshop includes 11 classes from April 5-8, plus a public dance party at the Elks Lodge on Saturday night, April 7. The couple has innumerable awards in Lindy Hop, Balboa and Boogie Woogie. They teach, perform and compete around the world and have appeared in televised programs and documentaries.

Many classes are designed for beginners, and no partner is necessary. Single classes, if fees are paid by March 31, cost $15. There are also discounts for multiple classes and for students. Contact Andrea Gill at 959-8216 or check hilohepcats.org.
