Hilton donates to Japanese childtren
Hilton Grand Vacations has donated $10,000 for Rainbow for Japan Kids, a special initiative that focuses on supporting youths affected by the earthquake and tsunami that stuck northeastern Japan in March, 2011. Headed by the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH), the program aims to bring affected children to Hawaii to experience its natural beauty and healing properties.
“We are honored to partner with Japan-America Society of Hawaii in support of the Rainbow for Japan Kids initiative,” said Bryan Klum, Hilton’s executive vice president for Asia and the Pacific.
“The people of Hawaii and Japan have always shared a special relationship, and as we commemorate one year since the March 11 disaster, this program provides a wonderful opportunity for local businesses to continue our support for the affected communities in Japan,” said Klum at a March 28 presentation ceremony.
The first group of youngsters arrived in Hawaii last August and their trip included stays on Oahu and the Big Island, with visits to local schools, joint camp stays and various activities around the islands.
Ed Hawkins, president of JASH, said the Rainbow for Japan Kids program was created because local businesses and organizations wanted a way to continue to help those affected by last year’s earthquake and tsunami.
“Through this initiative, it is our hope to create a lasting rainbow bridge between Japan and Hawaii so these children will experience the spirit of aloha and return home with new hope to create a better future for themselves and their communities,” said Hawkins.
