Members of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) invite the public to their big, annual scholarship rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Members of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) invite the public to their big, annual scholarship rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

“AAUW is committed to supporting women seeking degrees in higher education through its scholarship program,” said spokeswoman Barbra Green. “The major source of funds for these scholarships is the AAUW annual garage sale.”

To reach this year’s hosting home in HPP, take Makuu to 26th, and then make a right turn. The sale site will be the fourth house on the right. Watch for the signs and a purple house.

“The sale represents donations from over 75 members and offers a worldwide selection of diverse items. This year’s theme is ‘Treasures from Around the World‚’ and will include several very nice pieces of art and porcelain,” said Green.

Athletic equipment, including golf clubs and tennis rackets, will also be on sale. Kitchen utensils, linens, vases, costume jewelry, toys, tools, electronics and artifacts from Asia also will be available.

“This looks like our biggest year yet,” said Chairwoman Mary Connie Banser. “The items are just too numerous to list. Last year’s sale proceeds contributed to over $3,000 in scholarships for three women attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo.”

Many past winners have gone on to become professionals in the Hilo community, said AAUW President Patsy Egan. “We are hopeful we will be able to carry on this proud tradition.” For more information, please call Green at 934-7014.
