Doris Shimako Higashi, 102, of Honokaa died March 31 at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born in Ahualoa, she was a Honokaa’s first librarian at the Honokaa Public Library, forelady at Dole Pineapple Cannery on Oahu, seamstress, employed at Hilo Quality Cleaners, caregiver for her parents and member of the Honokaa Hongwanji and Fujinkai. Friends may call 3-4 p.m. Saturday at the Honokaa Hongwanji Mission; Memorial service at 4 p.m. Casual attire. Survived by sisters, Sueko Higashi of Honokaa, Itsue Hino of Honokaa, Mutsuko Higashi of Honokaa; sister-in-law, Shigeko Higashi of Hilo; 12 nieces and nephews; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Elisabeth Reinhart Oswald, 98, of Hilo, formerly of San Francisco, died April 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Germany, she was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Women’s Army Air Corps (WAC). She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, U.S. Air Force Sergeant’s Association. Celebration of Life is scheduled at Christ Lutheran Church, Hilo, Saturday. Friends may call at 5 p.m. Survived by daughters, Susan (Carl) Sandahl, Christine (David) Reed; two grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gladys Oswald; numerous nieces and nephews.
