The first Day of Mindfulness meditation event in March was such a success that a second is planned for Saturday, May 19, in Hawaiian Paradise Park.
The theme is “Happiness Is The Way,” said host Marty Mimmack, M.Ed., who has been following the teachings of Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, also known as Thay, since 2004. The mindfulness gatherings are based on Thay’s books, talks and tradition of Engaged Buddhism.
“Mindfulness, however, is widely regarded as a universal practice beneficial to people of all faiths,” said Mimmack. “Geared for beginner/intermediate levels, this day of mindfulness is a nonsectarian gathering to more deeply experience understanding, awareness and compassion.
“Meditation sufficiently unifies body, mind, speech and soul that scientists and spirit guides from many faiths regard as indispensable. Mindfulness meditation calms the body and frees the mind so that concentration and insight can bring forth happiness in oneself and peace in the world.”
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., participants will meditate silently while sitting and walking, hear a short talk, exercise, eat in silence, relax deeply and share uplifting stories. Instruction and orientation will be provided.
“Many enjoy these extended opportunities to stop, look at and listen to the beauty and joy available to us right now,” said Mimmack. “Please join us for this auspicious and rejuvenating mini retreat.” The cost is $10.
Please sign up by May 17. For details, schedule and info on what to bring, please email Mimmack at admiplace @yahoo.com.
