According to a written Fire Department statement, Michelle Marzullo, who owns the home on Aloha Road in Kalapana Black Sands subdivision, heard two loud explosions from a hot water heater under the home. Six units responded to the 2:38 p.m. alarm. The first unit arrived at the Aloha Road Home in Kalapana Black Sands Subdivision 14 minutes later. The fire was reportedly under control at 2:55 p.m. and extinguished at 3:10 p.m.
Damage to the raised, 700-square foot single-family home was estimated at $3,000, while $70,000 in potential property damage was reportedly averted.
