LOS ANGELES (AP) — An American Airlines flight from Kona has landed safely Monday on one engine at Los Angeles International Airport after the pilot reported engine trouble.
Airline spokesman Matt Miller in Dallas says instruments on Flight 246 showed trouble with the left engine about an hour before its scheduled arrival and the engine was shut down.
He says the aircraft is designed to fly safely on one engine.
The Boeing 757 jetliner landed at 5:19 a.m. from Kona and passengers got off at the terminal gate. The 147 people on board, including the seven crewmembers, were not injured. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says FAA inspectors will work with the airline to determine the cause of the problem and ensure it is fixed.
Destroyer back at Pearl Harbor
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Oahu (AP) — A guided-missile destroyer is back at Pearl Harbor after a deployment to the Western Pacific and the Arabian Gulf.
USS Russell returned Monday. The Navy says the crew of nearly 300 sailors conducted a range of operations, including ballistic missile defense, maritime security operations and oil platform defense.
Coast Guard, Kauai sign pact
LIHUE, Kauai (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard and Kauai are signing an agreement outlining how their crews will coordinate search and rescue support missions.
The Honolulu-based commander of the 14th Coast Guard District, Rear Adm. Charles W. Ray, and Kauai Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr. signed the agreement in Lihue on Monday.
The agreement addresses how Kauai’s fire department and ocean safety bureau will coordinate search and rescue support with the Coast Guard’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu and Coast Guard Sector Honolulu.
Carvalho says the document is about partnership, working together and how Kauai and the Coast Guard can help each other.
