A Kona jury has convicted a Naalehu man on charges he sexually assaulted a child in his care.

After a two-week trial, David Kaawa IV was found guilty Thursday of continuous sexual assault on a child under the age of 14 and first-degree sexual assault of a child between the ages of 14 and 16.

Kona Circuit Judge Ronald Ibarra set sentencing for 9 a.m. on June 28. Each of the sexual abuse counts is punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment.
