The University of Hawaii at Hilo will host Academy of Art University in a four-game Pacific West Conference series today and Tuesday at Wong Stadium.
Both doubleheaders begin at 4 p.m.
Tuesday’s game will be the final games for seniors Steven Riddle, Daniel Reitz, Tyler Simao, Tyson Goo and Bryan Raines.
The Vulcans, under longtime coach Joey Estrella, are currently fifth in the PacWest with a 9-26 record while they are 12-32 overall. The Urban Knights are sixth in the PacWest at 4-26 and 4-36 overall.
Golf to Regionals
The UHH men’s golf team will compete in the 2012 NCAA Division II Central/West Regional, May 7-9 in Litchfield Park, Ariz. The 10-team event is being hosted by Grand Canyon University.
Also representing the Pacific West Conference will be Grand Canyon University and Dixie State College. From the Great Northwest Athletic Conference will be Western Washington University and St. Martin’s University. The California Collegiate Athletic Association will be represented by Cal State Chico, Cal State Stanislaus, Cal State Monterey Bay, UC San Diego and Cal State East Bay.
There will be four regional sites in which two regions will meet and conduct regional tournaments. The regional tournaments are paired as Atlantic and East, South and Southeast, Midwest and South Central, and Central and West.
The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 15-19, at The Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky, as part of the 2012 Division II Spring Championships Festival. The Festival will be hosted by Bellarmine University and the Louisville Sports Commission.
Awards banquet
The annual UHH All-Sports Awards Banquet will be held Wednesday in the UHH Campus Center Dining Room.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with a program beginning at 5:30 p.m. that includes the announcement of the Vulcans’ male and female athletes and academic/athletes of the year as well as team of the year.
