In conjunction with the Blue Planet Foundation, Hilo Habitat is also participating in a CFL exchange program to help the community save energy by taking their old incandescent bulbs and swapping them out with new 60 watt CFLs. CFLs (compact fluorescent light) bulbs use 75 percent less energy and can save an average of $161 over the lifetime of each bulb.
“If you are still looking to get rid of your old incandescent light bulbs and save some money, stop by the Hilo Habitat ReStore to swap them out for free CFLs,” said ReStore manager Rex Lauer.
As always, the Hilo Habitat ReStore accepts donations at any time during its store hours. All proceeds go to the building of homes in the community.
“Please call if you have questions about how and what you can donate,” said Lauer. The ReStore is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone: 935-6677.
