“Edges” is an exhibition of new works in a multitude of media by members of the Volcano Village Artists Hui, set for May in the main gallery at the Wailoa Art Center in Hilo.

Join the artists for a gala opening reception on Friday from 5-7 p.m. Downstairs, take in new works by Volcano’s encaustics master, John Matsushita, in the Fountain Gallery.

Both shows will continue on weekdays, May 7-31.

Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesdays noon to 4:30 p.m. Call 933-0416.

Wailoa Center is at 200 Piopio St. in Wailoa State Park.

“The ‘edge,’ being that transition zone where two different worlds meet, is a place of surprising discovery. How these respected artists bring attention to, interpret and express the particular edges they are exploring is sure to delight the senses and expand the mind,” said a gallery spokesman.

Participating artists will include: Lisa Louise Adams (prints, pottery, paintings and Shibori Indigo), Margaret Barnaby, (multiple plate wood block prints), Pam Barton (fiber), Cynee Gillette-Wenner (wearable textile art), Mary Goodrich (photography), Emily Herb (clay), Zeke Israel (raku mixed media), Elizabeth Miller (metal and mixed media), Michael and Misato Mortara (glass), Ira Ono (mixed media, paintings and clay), Debra Serrao (paintings and mixed media), Randy Takaki (wood and mixed media) and Erik Wold (ceramics).
