Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon when their helicopter crashed on land mauka of the Four Seasons Resort at Hualalai.

The crash, reported about 3:30 p.m., apparently occurred shortly after the two-seat Robinson R-22 helicopter, which was on an instructional flight, took off from Kona International Airport, according to Ian Gregor, Federal Aviation Administration Western Region spokesman. The aircraft experienced engine failure.

Hawaii Fire Department officials said two men were transported to Kona Community Hospital with minor injuries following the crash. The helicopter appears to have belonged to Mauna Loa Helicopters, according to the department.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash, according to Gregor.
