Robert Edward Harmon Jr., 66, of Waikoloa died July 29, 2011. Born in Brownsville, Pa., he worked in customer assistance for General Motors and was a U.S. Army veteran. Service with military honors noon Friday, May 11, at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Survived by wife, Norma Harmon; brother, Stephen (Bibi) Sweet of Gaithersburg, Md.; sister, Christine (Frank) Patterson of Frederick, Md. Violet Lopes (Tavares) Osborn, 96, of Hilo died April 28 at home. Born in Hakalau, she was a lab technician for the former Hakalau Sugar Co. and member of Malia Puka O Ka Lani Catholic Church. Visitation 4:30-5 p.m. Monday, May 14 at Malia Puka O Ka Lani Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 5:15 p.m. Survived by sons, Rowland (Rosemary) Tavares of Hilo and Jude (Donna) Tavares of Canoga Park, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews. The gender of the late Mr. Katsumi “Kats” Nii was incorrect in an obituary published Tuesday. The Tribune-Herald regrets the error.
