Hawaii Electric Light Co. announced Thursday that approximately 6,300 customers experienced a 2-minute power outage at 11:05 a.m.
The event occurred when Puna Geothermal Venture tripped offline, HELCO reported in a press release.
Additional HELCO generation was started and service to all customers was restored by 11:07 a.m.
The cause of the interruption is still under investigation. Customers in the Huehue and Kuakini areas of Kona were affected.
“HELCO apologizes for any disruption this may have caused and sincerely thanks our customers for your cooperation and understanding. Mahalo,” the release stated.
