HONOLULU (AP) — Former Gov. Linda Lingle is calling on Hawaii Republicans to join together to make gains in the Democrat-dominated state.
Hawaii News Now reports the U.S. Senate candidate told delegates at the Hawaii Republican Convention in Honolulu on Saturday that the state should have a balanced two-party system of government.
She is running against Democratic U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono to fill the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Daniel Akaka.
The more than 300 delegates gathered at the Hilton Hawaiian Village also heard from Charles Djou (duh-JOO’), who is working to regain the U.S. House seat he lost to Democrat Colleen Hanabusa.
He says the election is a fight against reckless spending in Washington.
