HONOLULU (AP) — Gov. Neil Abercrombie is praising efforts to overhaul a violence-plagued housing project in Honolulu.
Abercrombie on Friday was given a tour of improvements at Mayor Wright Homes, which has seen several fatal stabbings in recent months. He praised the Hawaii Public Housing Authority and volunteers, who added lighting, fencing and security services to the complex.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Abercrombie said Mayor Wright Homes had been the site of some of the state’s most “egregious neglect” of public housing.
The governor’s office says the estimated cost of the upgrades in $700,000.
