Works by 11 Big Island potters will be featured at the 4th annual Volcano Pottery Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10, at Hale Ho’omana, the education building at the Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.

This year, three new potters — Shannon Hickey, Jan Bovard and Tim Johnson — will join the eight veterans of last year’s sale: Clayton Amemiya, TR Andrews, Birgitta Frazier, Ron Hanatani, Emily Herb, Chiu Leong, Jamie Stokes and Carol Yamashita.
Hickey is the owner of High Fire Hawaii Gallery and Studio in Hilo. Bovard has been creating pottery for many years in her Holualoa studio. Johnson studied ceramics in California and now works out of his studio in Pahoa.
“For all of the ceramic artists, working with clay is a way of life and our styles are diverse and unique,” explained event spokeswoman Emily Herb. “Pottery from low-fired raku to high-fired porcelain will be on display and for sale, including both functional and sculptural work.”
