GOP delegates in Hawaii break down as planned
HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii’s 20 Republican delegates in the presidential primary are breaking down as expected following the state’s caucus in March.
Executive Director Nacia Blom of the Hawaii Republican Party tells The Associated Press that the state’s delegates include nine for Mitt Romney, five for Rick Santorum, three for Ron Paul and three super-delegates who can support anyone they wish.
Blom says the state party is finalizing its list of delegates and alternates who will take part in the national convention in August.
Romney is close to clinching the party’s nomination to take on Democratic President Barack Obama. An Associated Press tally shows Romney has 973 of the 1,144 delegates he needs.
Paul says he’ll stop campaigning, but his supporters have successfully navigated other state conventions to add to his delegates.
