According to the report released Wednesday and compiled by P-20 Partnership for Education, about 53 percent of Hawaii’s 2011 graduates went on to two- or four-year colleges. That’s up 3 percentage points from the year before.
P-20 Executive Director Karen Lee tells the Honolulu Star-Advertiser (http://bit.ly/JwccUa ) the increase is heartening. Hawaii’s college-going rate has been about 50 percent for several years.
The report also finds about 37 percent of seniors took at least one Advanced Placement course last year, up 5 percentage points from year before.
Kalani High had the highest percentage of college-bound students, at 81 percent. Waianae High had the lowest rate at 32 percent.
