Noel Emil Bren, 86, of Kalaoa, and Barnes, Wisc., died May 5 at his residence. Born in Minnetonka, Minn., he was a retired proprietor of Windward Battery Exchange in Kaneohe. He was also a World War II Navy veteran. Services will be held June 6 in Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of Kona, P.O. Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96740 or to Hawaii Island United Way, P.O. Box 3318, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96745. Survived by daughters, Susan (Marty) Warner of California and Cathie (Peter) Amelotte of Kalaoa; son, Christopher Bren; sister, Bonnie Gullickson; brother, Clair (Diann) Bren, all of Minnesota; companion, Gloria Wilford of Minnesota; four grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Keith King, 71, of Kailua-Kona, died May 3 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in New Canaan, Conn., he was a retired U.S. Coast Guard commander and served as first mate on the Trojan Sea Raider charter boat. King was also a 3rd Circuit Court driving improvement adviser and state Department of Land and Natural Resources hunter education administrator. Private services to be held. Survived by wife, Cynthia King of Kailua-Kona; sons, Terryl (Christiann) King of Mountain View and Darrin (Vicki) King of Gresham, Oregon; brothers, Nason King of Marstons Mills, Mass., and Bryan King of Bristol, Connecticut; five grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Kauaheakeokauanomeha Jay Palapa Lactaoen, 19, of Waimea, died May 6 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, he was a back waiter for Merriman’s Restaurant and member of the Mana Christian Ohana Church and 43 Boiz Crew. Services will be held May 25 at Kahilu Town Hall in Waimea. Visitation at 2 p.m., followed by 3 p.m. memorial service. Aloha attire. Kihei attire appropriate. Survived by parents, Jay and Kawehi Lactaoen of Waimea; brother, Kawika-Sheldon Lactaoen of Waimea; sisters, Naomi Clarke of Oregon and Napualei Palapala of Waimea; paternal grandfather, Joseph Chang of Hilo; paternal grandmother, Dora Lactaoen of Waimea; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Masanori Masuda, 92, of Hilo, died March 12 at Life Care Center in Hilo. He was born in Pahoa and retired as a carpenter for Sonomura Construction. Private service to be held. Survived by daughters, Chris S.M. (Robert) Hee of Honolulu, Iris K. (Eldon) Ahue of Honolulu, and Jeri T. (Wayne) Kawakami of Keaau; four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. No koden. Robert Donald Mendiola Sr., 88, of Kurtistown died May 11 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired lieutenant for the Honolulu Police Department, security officer for Securitas at Hilo Airport, U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Keaau Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Services will be held May 25 at St. Jospeh Catholic Church in Hilo. Rosary begins 7:30 a.m., followed by visitation from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Grace Johanna Morks, 81, of Hilo died May 13 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Holland, she was a homemaker and a member of the United States Tennis Association. A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hilo Yacht Club. Casual attire. Survived by husband, Cornelis Morks of Hilo, and daughter, Joanne (Rick) Tjulander of Aloha, Oregon.
