Robert Donald Mendiola Sr., 88, of Kurtistown died May 11 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired lieutenant for the Honolulu Police Department, security officer for Securitas at Hilo Airport, U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Keaau Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Services will be held May 25 at St. Jospeh Catholic Church in Hilo. Rosary begins 7:30 a.m., followed by visitation from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.
