Kyong Wo Joseph “Tutuman” Chew, 84, of Panaewa died May 13 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kohala, he was a retired power plant controller at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, a private security firm manager, a U.S. Navy veteran whose service spanned from World War II to the Korean War and a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mason Scottish Rite and Shriner’s Aloha Temple. Memorial service 1-3 p.m. today at the Haili Tent, Panaewa. Urn committal service 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl in Honolulu. Survived by wife, Lorraine Chew of Panaewa; son, Langford (Mary) Chew of Kapolei, Oahu; daughters, Waonette Chew, Rayveen (Timothy) Waters and Violyna (Luiz Roberto) Chew-Fernandez of California, Marva Lynn Chew of Panaewa, Jowett (Keith) Chew-Marumoto of Hilo; hanai daughters, Sheila Ledesma Streltzer of Oahu and Suzie Alviso of California; hanai sons, Walter Hall of Oahu and Rodney Clarose of California; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Violet V. De Motta, 77, of Hilo died May 12 at Hilo Medical Center Extended Care Facility. Born in Pepeekeo, she was a retired as an egg farmer at Fujimoto Egg Farm and as a housekeeper.
