Warren Perry Curtis, 97, of Hilo died May 18 at home. Born in Overland Park, Mo., he was a retired printer, and served as a U.S. Navy Seabee in World War II. Services held. No flowers or monetary gifts. Survived by wife, Mary “Malia” Curtis of Hilo; sons, Michael (Cherrie) Curtis and Timothy (Linda) Curtis of San Diego; stepsons, Mark (Alexis) Kane and Jonathan (Kathy) Kane of Oahu, Gregory (Beverly) Kane of Hilo; daughters, Deedee (Joseph) Dodd and Susanna (Damien) Rhodes of Oregon, Dr. Mary Frances (Michael) Dague of Washington; stepdaughters Charlene (Bud) Fields and Georgia (Ron) Hosoda of California, Wilhelmina Kane of Colorado, Teresa Knocke of Hilo; 25 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Masami Okui, 96, of Hilo died May 16 at home. Born in Hakalau, he was a retired C. Brewer laboratory technician and member of Waiakea Upper Houselot Kumiai, Kamana Senior Center Gomoku Club, and Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Aiko Okui of Hilo; sons, Harvey Okui of San Diego, Craig (Rheda) Okui of Mililani, Oahu, and Garret (Hyon Chu) Okui of Hilo; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Marion “Sonny” Tavares, 88, of Hilo, formerly of Honomu, died May 13 at home. Born in Honomu, he was a retired county firefighter, a rancher, U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Independent Cane Planters Association and Honomu Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Tuesday, May 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Laura G. Tavares of Hilo; daughter, Sandie (Mike) Kaleikini of Hilo; sons, Skipper (Ann) Tavares of Hilo and John “Ringo” Roach of Fern Forest; sisters, Blanche Pakele of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., and Roselyn (George) Lakis of Lewisburg, Pa.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
