Police are asking for the public’s help in providing information about a man wanted in connection with a stabbing Tuesday afternoon in Kailua-Kona.

At 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a report of a stabbing at Laaloa Beach Park — also known as White Sands Beach — on Alii Drive. The victim, a 39-year-old Ocean View man, had reportedly been at the park with family members and had a verbal dispute with another man. The other man reportedly stabbed him in the side of the neck and then fled in a white Jeep.

The victim was treated for his injuries at Kona Community Hospital and released.

The suspect is described as African-American, possibly in his mid-30s, with a slim build and short black hair. He was wearing sunglasses, a black baseball cap with a marijuana leaf logo on the front, and no shirt. He had a tattoo of a chain of musical notes that ran from his left shoulder down his left arm.

Police found the vehicle — a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with gray primer on the driver-side door — at an apartment complex on the mauka side of Alii Drive between Poinciana Drive and Lunapule Road and impounded it as evidence.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity or whereabouts is asked to call Detective Walter Ah Mow at 326-4646, ext. 238, or the police nonemergency line at 935-3311. Those who prefer anonymity may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
