The East Hawaii Lions Clubs of Region VII, Zone I, brought home the Best Zone Award from the District 50 Hawaii Lions 76th annual Convention May 2-6 on Kauai.

The East Hawaii Lions Clubs of Region VII, Zone I, brought home the Best Zone Award from the District 50 Hawaii Lions 76th annual Convention May 2-6 on Kauai.

The award is one of several presented each year to Hawaii Lions for service in their communities.

The Lions Clubs in Zone I are Akaka Falls Lions Club (President Len Shimabukuro), Crescent City Lions Club (President Andrew Chun), Hilo Lions Club (President Michael Texeira), Mauna Kea Lions Club (President Malia Ushijima), Puna Lions Club (President Cecile Barash) and Waiakea Lions Club (President Patrick Naughton).

The zone chairman is Akaka Falls Lion Glen “Shige” Shigehara, who said, “This honor truly goes out to the leadership and membership of each of the clubs in the zone.” The Mauna Kea Lions also won honors as Best Club in the 25-members-or-less category.

The Lions continue to provide vision and hearing screening and participate in many community service projects throughout the year.

District 50 includes eight regions, 13 zones and 67 clubs within the islands of Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Oahu and the Big Island, with more than 1,840 members. Presently, there are 219 Lions in Region VII.
