The Universe Tonight talk Saturday at VIS

“The Power of Outreach,” and its role in inspiring future generations, will be the focus of the monthly The Universe Tonight program at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Mauna Kea Visitor Information Station.

Kim Brenton, the volunteer coordinator at the station, will discuss the importance of outreach in getting the local community involved in astronomy.

“She has put forth a great amount of energy to get children involved in science, as she knows education is vital for all ages, especially the youth,” said center spokeswoman Janet Nathani. “During her presentation, Kim will discuss the several outreach programs by which the VIS extends an appreciation of astronomy, Hawaiian culture and Mauna Kea to our community.”

The Universe Tonight is a free presentation on the first Saturday of every month and features a member of the Mauna Kea astronomy community sharing his or her mana’o and research with the public at the station, which is part of The Onizuka Center for International Astronomy.
