LRB dismisses complaint against Hawaiian Telcom
HONOLULU (AP) — The National Labor Relations Board has dismissed an unfair labor practices charge against Hawaiian Telcom.
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 1357 filed the complaint challenging Hawaiian Telcom’s Jan. 1 implementation of its last, best and final offer.
The company had said talks with the union reached an impasse. The NLRB determined the parties bargained in good faith to a valid impasse.
The new terms meant union workers would pay five percent of the premiums for their healthcare coverage in 2012.
The union represents about 700 members, or about half of the utility’s workers.
Hawaiian Telcom announced the decision Thursday.
The union said on its website they are disappointed with the decision and will be meeting with attorneys to explore options.
