Coordinators of the June 30 Keaau Chess Tournament are continuing to accept registration for what is expected to be “the largest chess tournament ever held in the history of Keaau.”
Organizer Jim Lee said more than 75 people have signed up to participate in the weekly Saturday Chess Fun Day action.
“We are getting more and more players coming in to play and to learn the most popular and most intelligent board game in the world,” he said.
“We are very proud to have Garry Picklers, a Big Island chess master, and Burt Izumikawa, a California chess master, and four other U.S. Chess Federation-ranked members in our register list,” said Lee. “This Saturday, at Keaau Village Market, I am predicting some very serious games in our Chess Fun Day.” Play runs from 9 a.m. -4 p.m.
Interested folks of all ages are invited to stop by and pick up a weekly schedule and chess tournament flyer. Chess Fun Day play is free. The registration fee for the tournament is $20.
