Marshall Zar, founder of Express PEACE — Performance Empowerment and Creative Expression — is planning to offer a workshop/performance series in Hilo to encourage creative self-expression through spoken word poetry. It will be hosted by the East Hawaii Cultural Center.

The sessions will let participants discover the dynamics of successful performance poetry and how it differs from page poetry. Learn various styles of spoken word through live performance, literature and multimedia. Craft poems and stories written specifically for live performance.

Develop a writing style that is accessible, one that connects the audience to your story through the immediacy of stage presence. In addition to creating new writings, participants may bring previous work to share and develop. Beginners will be very welcome. The sessions will be for teens and adults, with a $10 fee per class and a $5 discount for students with valid school ID.
