Aliens from within

Aliens from within

The political cartoon in Thursday’s Tribune-Herald depicted a character (I assume to be a Republican) rejoicing the fact that being under attack by aliens will cause the president not to be re-elected in November.

The cartoon reaffirms my thoughts that people will be the demise of the human race.

The character is more elated that our president will probably not be re-elected, than the possibility of the human race being wiped out from the face of the Earth.

Millions of dollars from Republican backers were spent on ads depicting Mitt Romney as not being a suitable candidate just a few months ago. Now those same backers (the super rich) are funding him.

It seems as if it is not about who is the best candidate to help the people and the country. Instead, it’s about just beating the opposition, no matter what will happen.

My definitions of dictatorship and democracy: Dictatorship — one person ruling and raping the country. Democracy — the “1 percenters” (the wealthy) doing the same to their people and country.

Solution? For the “99 percenters,” do whatever it takes to make it through your life, because you are not getting out alive.

Selective enforcement?

(The “Click it or Ticket”) program has undoubtedly saved lives in Hawaii. However, whenever I see cars pulled over with the front-seat occupants — those somewhat protected from the elements — being lectured, I wonder about those sitting in the back of a truck bed.

Apparently, pets riding in a truck bed have to be restrained, whereas people can sit anywhere without restraint, without seat belts, completely free to fly through the air when the truck hits a bump or something more substantial.

Makes you wonder what’s too close when following behind. Why aren’t these drivers ticketed?

Same with the highly elevated trucks that kick up cinder that chips windows and car finishes. It has happened to me twice, but how do you prove it? These are trucks raised so high that a driver in any normal car could be decapitated in a collision. They are all over the highways, in car lots and on driveways. Why aren’t these ticketed?

Bad deal for public

Regarding “Relocation requests rise” (Tribune-Herald): Well, of course it has! Where else can one sell their home for 130 percent of market value?

We need to put a stop to this boondoggle and pay no more than the fair value. In today’s market, most sellers would be very happy to receive even that much. Geothermal money should be spent for the good of the public, not a few profiteers.

Fit for the ‘funnies’

It is amusing to read the ludicrous letters of Pahoa’s own Gerald (“Wrong”) Wright.

Only one thing: Shouldn’t they be printed in the comics section?
