Women’s health grants awarded on Big Island
The state Department of Health has awarded $5,000 grants to four communities on the Big Island to enhance and address issues around women’s health, through community collaboration and support, said spokeswoman Cathi Lux.
In East Hawaii, Family Support Hawaii, WIC, PATCH and the East Hawaii Perinatal Consortia, have collaborated to establish a series of five classes on “Family Care and Community Wide Information” in Pahoa, Mountain View and Hilo.
The first series of classes begins on Thursday, June 28, in Pahoa at the Women’s Health Center. The second series starts Thursday, Aug. 2, in Mountain View, and the third on Monday, July 16, in Hilo. Call for location details.
Classes are open to parents of young children and each class will offer gas cards for transportation, light pupus and a door prize. A free car seat will be awarded to any participant who completes all five classes. Class times are 5:30-7 p.m. Registration is limited; please make arrangements for child care.
