People may often hear the expression “Follow your heart” but rarely hear “Safeguard your heart.” The latter phrase will be heard many times the weekend of June 29-July 1 during the 2012 “Safeguard Your Heart!” District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The convention is scheduled to begin Friday morning, June 29, at the Edith Kanaka’ole Multipurpose Stadium at 360 Kalanikoa St. in Hilo. Meetings begin each day at 9:40 a.m., with doors opening at 8 a.m.

Meetings begin each day at 9:40 a.m., with doors opening at 8 a.m.

The convention will highlight biblical references to the heart. Program parts will encourage self-scrutiny and reflection, amounting to a three-day examination of one’s own figurative heart. Attendees will see how protecting the heart can help them to make wise decisions, improve family life, strengthen their personal relationship with God and find true happiness.

Jehovah’s Witnesses invite everyone to attend and learn more about these topics. All three days of the convention, the program sessions begin at 9:20 a.m. Admission is free.

Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses are supported entirely by voluntary donations.

The same convention will be held on the Kona side at the Sheraton on July 27-29.

Most of the speakers are from the Hilo side of the Big Island. Delano Choy Jr. from Mountain View will deliver Friday’s keynote address. Choy’s address is “Let God’s Word Reveal The Intensions Of Your Heart.” Friday afternoon’s program concludes with a talk, “Do You Have A Heart For Working?” by Big Island Circuit Overseer Gary Luzader.

One of Saturday’s highlights will be the baptism talk by Neal Maki of Hilo. The title is, “Give Your Heart To Jehovah.” There are also many symposiums during the three-day event.

A highlight of Sunday’s program will be the drama, “What Is True Love?” The drama this year will all be in modern times and will illustrate a dilemma that many youth have. All the actors are from the Puna district.

The convention concludes Sunday with a talk by Hawaii District Overseer Bill Driver, who will focus on “Never Let Your Heart Become Terrified.”
