John O’Leary, 61, of Ocean View was arrested Sunday afternoon in connection with a shooting at his home.
According to published reports, the victim, a 66-year-old Ocean View man who is a longtime acquaintance of O’Leary, went to the home. Police said O’Leary fired several shots, one of which hit the victim in his right thigh. The reason for the shooting is not known.
After a struggle in which the victim was able to get the gun away from O’Leary, the suspect reportedly then hit the victim on the elbow with a baseball bat.
The victim drove home with the gun and called 911. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital where he was treated and released.
A .22-caliber revolver was recovered. O’Leary was arrested Sunday afternoon for attempted second-degree murder and two firearms violations. It’s unclear whether he has been charged.
