Man gets life in 2009 murder
HONOLULU (AP) — A man convicted of murdering an 18-year-old woman whose nude body was found in the alley near a Honolulu public housing complex has been sentenced to life in prison.
Corbit Ahn was sentenced Monday in the 2009 death of Iris Rodrigues-Kaikana. She was last seen by friends the night before she was found strangled and beaten outside Kamehameha Homes.
Ahn, an amateur kick boxer, must serve 10 years before he is eligible for parole.
The victim’s father, Steven, turned to Ahn during his sentencing and said, “You’re lucky we don’t have the death penalty.”
Ahn’s attorney plans to appeal the conviction.
Bail is reduced in boy’s death
WAILUKU, Maui (AP) — The girlfriend charged along with her boyfriend with murder in the Maui death of his 4-year-old son has been granted a reduced bail amount.
A judge reduced Grace Lee-Nakamoto’s bail from $1 million to $750,000.
Lee-Nakamoto and Kyle McKeown are charged with second-degree murder of Zion McKeown. Zion died May 30 after the couple brought the unresponsive boy to an emergency room. Prosecutors say Zion’s injuries are consistent with being stomped on or falling from a significant height.
Lee-Nakamoto remains in custody at Maui Community Correctional Center. McKeown’s bail remains at $1 million.
Man, 42, found slain in Waipahu
WAIPAHU, Oahu (AP) — Police are investigating the murder of a man found dead at a Waipahu park.
Police say the 42-year-old man’s body was discovered Saturday night in a parked vehicle at Honowai District Park. The man had what police describe as suspicious head injuries.
There are no suspects identified in the case. Police say a weapon was possible involved.
Blessing begins ‘Hawaii Five-0’
HONOLULU (AP) — A traditional Hawaiian blessing opened the start of production on the third season of the CBS TV series “Hawaii Five-0.”
Kahu Blaine Kamalani Kia conducted a blessing Monday morning in Honolulu before cast members, crew, executive producers and Honolulu Mayor Peter Carlisle.
“Hawaii Five-0” stars Alex O’Loughlin and Daniel Dae Kimwere among those who attended the blessing.
