A Big Island 14 & under team — the Waiakea Pirates AKA Gummy Bears — went undefeated to capture the state ASA fast-pitch softball tournament on Oahu. The tournament was held July 1 and included teams from around the state.
A Big Island 14 & under team — the Waiakea Pirates AKA Gummy Bears — went undefeated to capture the state ASA fast-pitch softball tournament on Oahu. The tournament was held July 1 and included teams from around the state.
It ‘s the first time an outer island team has won the 14U ASA state championship, a Gummy Bears spokesperson said.
In their opening game, the Gummy Bears defeated the defending champion Strikers of Oahu 12-6. The Big Island then beat Ho’okela Blue (Oahu) 12-2, Lahaina (Maui) 6-3, Mililani Prep (Oahu) 6-3 and again Mililani Prep 8-7 in the exciting title game.
