The new parking lot at Hilo’s Gilbert Carvalho Park will be closed temporarily starting Monday, July 16, so a Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation crew can pave the driveway entrance.
The paving work is estimated to last a week, weather permitting, to provide time for the new asphalt to cure and the fresh striping to dry, according to a county news release.
The cost of the paving work was not disclosed in the release.
Once work is finished, the parking lot will be reopened.
Stalls near the park’s gym will remain available for public use during the construction phase.
The Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to thank park users for their patience and understanding while the improvement is being made, according to the release.
