Coordinators have scheduled the first open community meeting of the new group for 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at Uncle Robert’s at the south end of highway 137 in Kalapana.

All are invited to attend and meet with their friends and neighbors from that lower Puna area.

Having a voice in the future and rapid growth and needs of the area will be the thrust of this first important meeting, said spokesman Pat Rocco. Free refreshments will be provided, and a “short, but productive, meeting is promised.” The name of the new organization is KAPONO, which stands for Kalapana-Pohoiki Neighborhoods Organization.
