Madisyn Uekawa of Hilo Aquatic Club was the island’s most decorated swimmer at last week’s state age group long course swimming championships, winning five gold medals.

Uekawa picked up a pair of wins in the freestyle (50, 100) and breaststroke (100, 200) and touched first in the 100-meter butterfly. The Waiakea senior finished second overall in the 17-18 division, just three points behind Kauai swimmer Anya Littlefield.

Alyssa Foo won three races (100 and 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley) for Kona Aquatics, which finished sixth in the team standings during the four-day event in Waipio, Oahu. Foo, a Kealakehe graduate, was fourth in the 17-18 division, one spot behind Rachel Shimizu of Warrior Aquatics Club. Shimizu claimed four silver medals.

In the 15-16 division, Kona Aquatics’ Leahi Camacho took gold in the 400 IM.
