Police are investigating a possible homicide that occurred at a home in Honomu early Sunday morning.
According to a press release issued Sunday afternoon, police have arrested 49-year-old Honomu resident Daniel Schuster in connection with the stabbing death of a 30-year-old male and fellow Honomu resident, who was not identified. Officers responded to a home on Pua Street on Sunday, shortly after a 6:18 a.m. report of a stabbing. Responding police and firefighters discovered the victim dead inside the home, the release said.
Schuster was taken into custody at the scene. He remained in custody Sunday afternoon at the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation, which has been classified as a second-degree murder.
The victim’s identity and other details were not made available as of presstime Sunday.
Three police officers stood in the road in front of 28-1111 Pua Street at about 3:45 p.m. to secure the scene. A line of yellow police tape blocked the entrance to the home, and the home’s front door appeared to be off its hinges and leaned up against a front wall of the house.
The officers on scene directed all questions to their commanding officer. Calls to the shift commander were not returned.
