“It’s just about half way to Christmas and we figured it was a perfect time to remind our shoppers that hunger is a year-round issue in Hawaii and not just something our communities and neighbors deal with during the holidays,” said Brian Halsey, Hawaii market manager for Walmart.
“Even when times are tough, people in Hawaii are always willing to extend a hand to a neighbor or a friend in need,” said Mayor Billy Kenoi. “We thank the Food Basket for helping us to extend that hand where it’s needed the most.”
“A startling 1 in 3.75 children under the age of 18 on the Island of Hawaii are food insecure, said Nani Lee, executive director of The Food Basket. “This means that they do not know where their next meal is coming from. “At The Food Basket, we see these faces every day and are working diligently to meet the rapidly increasing need in our community.”
