Police are investigating a reported road rage incident.

Police are investigating a reported road rage incident.

At 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, a 59-year-old Puna man reported at the Pahoa police station that he had been driving toward Pahoa on Keaau-Pahoa Road (Route 130) and passed a Toyota pickup truck just south of Ainaloa Boulevard intersection. The man told police the Toyota truck then rear-ended his own truck three times, with the third strike sending the victim’s truck into a slide.

As the alleged victim drove to the police station, the suspect followed him but then drove away before police could contact him. The man told police he last saw the suspect’s truck heading back in the opposite direction on Route 130 towards Ainaloa.

The suspect’s pickup is described as a dark-colored new Toyota Tacoma 4-door, possibly black or charcoal gray. It appeared to be lifted.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information about the truck or its driver is asked to call Officer Shawn Tingle at 965-2716. Those who prefer anonymity may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1000.
