The Kailua-Kona Target store will host a National Night Out event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, in conjunction with the Hawaii Police and Fire Departments. The goal of the annual national program is to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention, generate support for local anti-crime, safety and preparedness programs, and strengthen neighborhood unity and community partnerships.
The community is invited to enjoy free food, giveaways, activities for the keiki, a chance to see all the cool police and fire vehicles, live entertainment and more. This will be the second year for the Kona event. It’s the 29th year Target has been involved with this program.
In 2011, more than 37 million people — including 12,000 Target team members — in 15,000 communities in all 50 states participated in NNO.
“Target’s sponsorship presents a unique opportunity for us to cultivate strong relationships with local law enforcement, community groups and guests, as well as to promote safety and security in the communities we serve,” said spokesman Cacique Melendez.
